TXT is a nomadic collective creating decentralized art, poetry, books and happenings. Their latest project, Antonym, is an exhibition and book of decentralized art and poetry that exists across physical and virtual space.
Antonym focuses on work exploring decentralized art and dematerialization that maintains connection to the body, gesture, physicality, and social context.
All artwork and poetry in the exhibition makes use of an artist's contract on the blockchain, using NFT technology to certify the work and unique editions.
Featured artists include Patrick Meagher, Neil Ramsay, Seth Indigo Carnes aka [sic], Lydia Smith, Sha Weï, Alfred Steiner, and Jamie-May Minjie.
“The basic thing here is that art matters, and money is one of the main ways that our world shows that things matter. We’ve seen the transformation of our world into a kind of network digital reality where creative media is so fundamental, but until this [NFT] technology was established, there was no way to really value that directly. As I see it, this kind of gold rush or whatever we want to call it is a leveling-out or re-equilibrium that’s moving some of the value that was there all along much closer to the creative communities that have been providing it.”
Artist, creator of the first NFT
The Antonym book will be released as a limited edition NFT, with the first 1000 copies given for free.
TXT believes in the power of a gift economy, in this case art and poetry as creative goods. The book as NFT certifies your ownership and governs further giving or resale, if you desire.
The exhibition features a first of its kind NFT, this is it, by [sic], a hybrid visual poetry artwork that has both a flat, final format, also an infinitely editable custom file.
Owners of the NFT edition can use the NFT itself to decrypt and download the .poetic file of the work, which can be opened in the Poetics iOS app, also created by the artist. The artwork is then editable, both the image and text, as a gestural semiotic poem.
