Poetics
New York City | NY and Worldwide | 2013-present
Poetics is a visual poetry app, developing the concept of a mutable, object-oriented poetry in the realm of decentralized art.
Poetics v1.0 launched an an iOS app on Apple's App Store in July 2013, and has since been downloaded and used in over 150 countries worldwide.
The app sits in a progression of earlier artworks that explored poetic language in flux, within a context of exiting the 20th century, into the coded, digital realm of the 21st.
Poetics has been a part of several art shows and projects, centered on expanding its scope and concept, moving between physical and virtual outputs, spaces, and collaborations.
Since its release, Poetics drew the attention of educators. The app has been used in a wide variety of private and public schools, across subjects, including special needs education.
In 2015, the app's usage and use cases were presented with the New York Department of Education. In 2016, a collaboration with Tompkins Square Middle School in NYC's East Village explored the cross-section of public school pedagogy and poetic arts technology.
A documentary short by Sunset People about this work remains in progress; below is a montage of several scenes.
Poetics is live and available on Apple's App Store for iOS devices, including iPhone and iPad.
