Happening 002
Collective Hardware | NYC | July 2009
An event series mixing art, music and space into the social fabric of the moment. With roots in the 60s, each Happening created a temporary but singular experience, blurring the definition between audience and artist.
At Collective Hardware on the Bowery in NYC, Happening 002 focused on instant creation and ephemerality, featuring artists Alessandra Olanow, Fernanda Cohen, Marcos Chin, Cassady Benson, and William Benson, and anyone in attendance who wished to draw.
Sketches were created of any mise-en-scène framed by the artist, portraiture or otherwise. Upon the decision that the drawing was complete, the sketches were given away, bartered, sold, or pinned to the wall.
A sketch drum set occurred for 7 minutes every 30 minutes by Mikkel Hess of Hess is More. His sets led to the ending crescendo, where all remaining sketches were burned in a ritual of closure.
