MALA meme campaign aims to refocus culture and politics in the United States.

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, August 27, 2026 — Seth Indigo Carnes, a conceptual artist based in New York City, has launched MALA (“Make America Love Again”) with animated memes aimed at refocusing culture and politics in the United States.

The MALA design is reminiscent of pop art and Milton Glaser’s “i love NY” design, featuring to versions, an acronym form with a heart, then acronym spelled out as “Make American Love Again”, both in red and blue on a white background. The animations loop between the two states of the design in repeating patterns that range in style from meditative to high energy, while the musical score of each animation complements the mood and style of each animation.

“Sometimes a decision simply comes down to choosing love over hate,” Carnes said, “These memes provide a suggestion to consider doing so in everyday life and politics.” In considering the state of affairs in the United States, Carnes noted, “The idea surfaced to create an iconic design that symbolized unity and love, in contrast to the divisive and regressive focus of MAGA. Love makes room for everyone.”

The resulting artwork inspired Gary Breslin, Executive Creative Director of ODD studio, who offered to donate time to animate the MALA designs. The first set of animations based on Seth’s storyboards were completed within a week. Guitarist and composer Gyan Riley soon agreed to compose music for the first set of MALA animations, and Gregory Reeves joined soon after to compose the music for remainder.

A set of eight musically scored MALA animations were released on Giphy in a meme campaign, as both traditional GIF files and “clips” that feature the musical score as well. They have been viewed over 350,000 times since release in late April 2026.

The MALA project invites supporters to either spread the campaign’s memes directly from the MALA project page or by using them directly via Giphy. A kiosk on Etsy features limited edition MALA merchandise, where all proceeds go towards amplifying the spread of these memes.

ABOUT SETH INDIGO CARNES

Seth Indigo Carnes, aka [sic], is a post-conceptual artist with a multidisciplinary practice, focused in language art, public art, digital art, cinema, performance, installation, research, and publishing. Carnes’ projects are led by concept, process, and inquiry, making use of both physical and digital media.
