Poetics is a visual poetry app.  As an experimental artwork, the project develops the concept of an infinitely editable, object-oriented poetry.

The app has been downloaded over 300,000 times and is used in over 150 countries, across languages and cultures.  In schools, Poetics is used to teach a variety of subjects, including special needs education.  The educational uses are now being researched by a team including the artist and professors at Teacher’s College at Columbia University and NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.

The project began in 2007 with physical, interactive poetry installations.  Shown in Sweden, Miami, the Napa Valley and New York City, these and other R&D works informed ideation of the app, specifically as gestural software enabling experiences that move between material and immaterial states.
